To celebrate the end of the conspicuously-consumptive-oriented "noughties" which were also quite naughty, I canceled my US credit card on New Years Eve. Deep sigh of highly, symbolic relief. You see, we returned to live on this island in December of 2000 and here we still sit, ready to bring in the "tennies"? That's what the Times plans to call these teenage years of our new millennium. But given that "tennies" can also mean sneakers where I come from, that handle may not work, long term. Speaking of long, this is the longest period of consecutive years the Brit and I have ever dwelled, in the same place, since our record began.

We brought in the New Year with his old and my new gang of "homies" to chase the end of that decade away. Our theme was hot and cold, a bit of an all-over-the-place-scenario if there ever was one but also highly symbolic of such tumultuous times. And blatantly over the top but perhaps a preview to celebrations for the 2012 London Olympics; I thought the fireworks display over Waterloo Bridge was cathartic in its exuberant, unrelenting brilliance.

Time for huge, gulping breaths and rediscovering honesty, coupled with steely determination. For the first time ever, our eldest three brought in 2010 solo. They went in three different directions, to acquire the same result - a fresh start.
Wishing that for everyone.
HNY.
